Mission
Black Student Union (BSU) Mission Statement
Madison College | 2026–2027

The Black Student Union (BSU) is dedicated to creating a welcoming, supportive, and empowering community that celebrates Black culture, history, identity, and heritage.

Our mission is to foster belonging, unity, cultural awareness, leadership development, and personal and academic growth. Through educational programs, cultural celebrations, community service, social activities, and meaningful conversations, we give students opportunities to connect, learn, share experiences, and grow together.

BSU serves as a voice for Black students while welcoming students of all backgrounds who support our mission. We believe that building understanding, celebrating diversity, and encouraging student involvement strengthen both our campus and the broader community.

Whether you want to lead, learn, advocate, celebrate, or simply connect, there is a place for you in BSU.

Meeting Details:
Meeting Day & Time: To Be Determined (TBD)

BSU is currently gathering member availability to establish a regular meeting schedule for the semester.

Per our bylaws, we determine meeting dates, times, formats, and locations each semester after considering officer and member schedules of those who respond to a two-week open call. Meetings may be held in person, virtually, or in a hybrid format.

We hope to offer in-person opportunities at Madison College’s Truax Campus, including the Intercultural Exchange, Room C1430, when space is available, and will do our best to host an event or meeting at Goodman South once a semester.

You don’t have to attend every meeting to be part of BSU!
We recognize that students balance classes, employment, family responsibilities, and other commitments. We encourage members to participate in whatever ways fit their schedules.

Attending a BSU-sponsored or co-sponsored event, even if you can only stop by for a few minutes, is another meaningful way to connect, show support, meet other students, and stay involved.

Participation may also include sharing ideas, helping plan activities, communicating with members, volunteering, or supporting club initiatives.

Stay connected through WolfPack Connect for meeting announcements, upcoming events, and leadership opportunities; look for BSU emails and ways to get involved.

Your presence matters, whether you have five minutes or an hour!
Motto
"United, we stand. Divided, we fall. Together, we can all stand tall."
Inspirational Quote
"Whoever said anybody has a right to give up?"
— Marian Wright Edelman
This quote reflects BSU’s commitment to perseverance, empowerment, community, and the belief that meaningful change begins when individuals support one another.

Through education, cultural awareness, shared experiences, and collective action, we encourage students to keep moving forward, build connections, and recognize the strength found in unity.

As a BSU member, you have opportunities to:
- Build Community: Connect with students, mentors, and campus partners in a welcoming and supportive environment.
- Celebrate Black Culture: Explore Black history, identity, achievements, traditions, and experiences through educational and cultural activities.
- Develop Leadership Skills: Help organize events, participate in club decisions, lead projects, and explore student officer opportunities.
- Grow Personally and Academically: Share experiences, discover resources, and build confidence, communication, and professional skills.
- Advocate and Support Others: Help raise awareness of student concerns, promote understanding, and support equity, inclusion, and positive change.

We understand that not everyone can attend regularly scheduled meetings. Members are encouraged to stay involved in ways that fit their availability and interests.

Whether you participate throughout the semester or attend an event when your schedule allows, we welcome your involvement.

You do not need previous leadership experience to participate, and you don’t need to hold an officer position to make a difference.

Come as you are. Connect when you can. Grow with us.
